Happy Virgo season!
I freaking love this time of year. Sure, it's back-to-school season, and this is our third year of homeschooling, but there's something so exciting about new notebooks (which I'm always stocking up on), a fresh set of pens, and an ambitious set of goals.
I'm a writer and coach, not an astrologer, but I've been using astrology to drive my work, writing flow, and how I live for a few years.
As an example, if you're not sure what to write about, scan the content inspiration list below for some topics with Virgo themes.
♍️ Virgo Content Inspiration: Content style, content format, how you teach, how you serve, your style, health and upgrading routines and systems, working out, eating well, updating systems to make them more efficient, hiring service providers, helpers, and assistants. Breaking a big project down into actionable and practical steps, self-improvement, routines.
If you're a health coach, this is your Super Bowl season! I just had a health coach create a custom meal plan for me (not even realizing that Virgo season was approaching). Here are some topic ideas (for blogs, newsletters, and social):
Adjust these for your industry.
## Upgrades to make to your morning smoothie this fall
## Ways to create a healthy morning routine
## Superfoods to add to your plate this season
How I healed _______
## Lessons from teaching ## students/for ## years
🛠️ Self-Improvement: Writing is good for you!
You probably haven't realized how much writing you do every day. Texts, emails, and tweets count too! (BTW, what are we calling tweets now? Xs???).
Writing makes you happier, healthier, more resilient, boosts gratitude, and helps you communicate clearly 🙌
Thanks to Wilco, for sharing this article that goes into the science of writing and your health in The Intuitive Writing School Community the other day.
⏰ Last call for the copywriter's mentorship! Applications close at 5pm Eastern Friday (tomorrow).
If you're thinking of becoming a copywriter, you'd be doing so because you LOVE writing. If you're thinking about it JUST to make money — then please don't apply.
One applicant had some really good questions. I'll share my responses here too:
What does the work look like? Anything you want! You can choose to do one kind of copy — websites, emails, social media. Or you can write content for others (think, ghostwriter) — blogs and newsletters. Or you can try them all. When I started copywriting, I wrote all kinds of things — still do. For me, I love the variety.
What are the hours/schedule? Like any business, you make your schedule. I set expectations with all clients at the beginning of a project, and run the project like a project manager. Most of my work happens between 9-4. Usually, client work stays contained within that, and then I work on my other projects — community, teaching, and book writing either before or after that.
How competitive is it? I've never even considered the competitiveness of copywriting. I've never "competed" to win a project. Like coaching, when a client is a good fit and wants to work with me, and the feeling is mutual, you become the natural choice. Most of my clients come from referrals, repeat clients, and because they like my writing style. I NEVER compete on price and don't suggest any new copywriter do that.
Where/how do you begin? I suggest beginning with your network. Like this email I sent people I knew to land my first few projects. I also did some writing for a handful of people I knew for free (this was 9 years ago now!). It grew from there. People hired me or passed my name along. I also bid on projects on Upwork and priced myself higher than most at the time.
How long is each project? Depends on the project. A whole website might take 2-4 weeks. Sometimes longer if it's their first website. Or it can be a blog and done in a week or less. Some of my clients are ongoing — we have retainers and I write a certain number of things for them each month, like 4 newsletters, 4 blogs, 1 sales email.
Income? In March 2017, I left my full-time job. My business made $50k that partial year (not counting my corporate salary). My biz made $107K the year after. I wrote about that here.
Is this course right for a newbie? It's not a course but a custom on-the-go mentorship for your specific needs. Depending on your needs, I might deliver answers in writing, via Signal, or recorded audio, or a screen share video. You'll get EXACTLY what you need to start and grow your writing business.
